What CDP is
Child Disability Payment is Scotland's disability benefit for children under 16, delivered by Social Security Scotland under the Social Security (Scotland) Act 2018 and the Disability Assistance for Children and Young People (Scotland) Regulations 2021.
Eligibility
- Child lives in Scotland.
- Under 16 at the point of claim.
- Has care or mobility needs due to a disability or health condition, expected to last at least 13 weeks in the past and 26 weeks going forward.
How to claim
Apply through mygov.scot, by phone or in person. You can nominate someone to act on your behalf.
Supporting information
- School reports, teacher statements, SEN or ASN paperwork.
- Consultant, paediatrician, CAMHS or specialist letters.
- Occupational therapy assessments.
- Care and mobility diary showing what a typical week looks like.
Redetermination and appeal
Request redetermination within 42 days of the decision. If Social Security Scotland does not respond in the statutory time, you can appeal to the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Social Security Chamber) without waiting.
